Frankfurt to Wiesbaden – A day trip

I visited Wiesbaden, a small town located just outside of Frankfurt, when some friends came to visit. It was the perfect day trip for exploring more of Hessen without having to venture too far.

Getting to Wiesbaden

You can reach Wiesbaden from Frankfurt in less than an hour, just take the S1, S8 or S9 train directly there. Once you arrive, it’s only a 15 minute walk to the city centre – pretty simple and you can be very flexible with your schedule.

Quick tip: If travelling with up to 5 people, buy a Hessen Ticket for only €36.00 for the entire group. You can travel around Hessen for the whole day, as long as you’re all taking the same transport.

Neroberg

We headed straight to Neroberg, a famous hill in Wiesbaden with amazing views of the city.

The Neroberg train takes you to the top of the hill in just 3.5 minutes but if you’re there outside of the train opening months (April- October), like I was, you can take the scenic 15 minute walk to the top instead.

Quick tip: To get to Neroberg hill, cross over the busy road directly opposite the main station and take the number 1 bus to Nerotal station, which is the last stop.

Saint Elizabeth Russian-Orthodox Church

This church is so pretty! It was our first stop on our walk up Neroberg hill, and it looks even better in real life. There are also a few surrounding benches if you’d like to sit down and soak up the view.

This is the peak of the hill and the view really is breath taking. There’s a cafe if you’d like to stop for a drink during the summer months and you can walk around the forested areas to explore more of the nature too.

Wiesbaden town centre

We then headed to Wiesbaden town centre where we stumbled across the market church and the town hall.

If you fancy a bite to eat then I’d recommend das!Burger. There is only one veggie option (halloumi cheese) but it was really good and the staff are friendly.

Wiesbaden has plenty of shops to visit. If you’re into home decor, I would recommend going to Drinnen. It’s a Scandinavian shop full of bits and bobs ranging from candles and cushions to jewellery and gifts.

After arriving in Wiesbaden at around midday, we decided to head back to Frankfurt at around 6pm, meaning that we could still spend the entire evening in Frankfurt.

I’m already looking forward to my next trip to Wiesbaden to see the architecture of Wiesbaden’s famous Kurhaus and it’s surrounding gardens. Enjoy your trip!
