My top 5 favourites in Frankfurt

If I were moving or had relocated to a new city, I’d love to know what other people think about it. I’ve been living in Frankfurt for over 5 years now, and whilst I would never say ‘never’ when it comes to moving, I am more than happy to stay put. So what is it about this small metropolitan city that is stopping me from jumping ship? Find out in ‘my top 5 favourites in Frankfurt!’

In no particular order…

1. Stadtwald (City Forest)

Who moves to a city so they can be close to the forest? Not me! But since discovering Frankfurt’s Stadtwald, I love being able to explore its nature. Whether I’m visiting the pond (Jacobiweiher), climbing the Goetheturm for breathtaking views, or walking/ cycling through the trees, Frankfurt’s Stadtwald is the perfect local space for when you fancy a change of scenery.

2. Kleinmarkthalle

I only discovered Kleinmarkthalle after living here for two years. But now that I’ve found it, I can’t live without it. Kleinmarkthalle has all the ingredients that you can’t find in your local supermarket, and the fresh vegetables and pastas are so delicious! As well as buying ingredients for your next meal, you can stop for coffee, have lunch, and even purchase plants too.

3. Schirn Museum

Fun fact: When I first started blogging, my content was all about theatre shows and museum exhibitions. So yes, I love a bit of culture and I love love love the Shirn. The exhibitions are just so good! My favourites include Basquiat- Boom for Real and Fantastic Women, and I’m going to visit the Kara Walker exhibition soon, which is running until 16th January 2022. Go check it out!

4. Opernplatz

I love Opernplatz for the view of the Alte Oper (Old Opera) and its atmosphere in the summer. Opernplatz is the perfect place to grab a drink and catch up with friends. Whether you prefer to sit by the fountain, on the stairs of the opera house or at one of the bars/ restaurants, the atmosphere is always great. In the summer, when everything runs as normal, Opernplatz is home to Frankfurt’s first annual street party – Freßgassfest, which runs all the way down to Haputwache; Drink, eat and enjoy time with friends – maybe make some new ones too!

5. Oederweg

I. Love. Oederweg. For its numerous restaurants, bakeries, florists, small shops, cafes, bars and more! Located just a 7-minute walk from Hauptwache (or one stop on the U-Bahn), it’s the best place to stop for a break when going into the city centre. Here are my recommendations:
For cake, grab a Schnecke from Zeit for Brot;
for pizza, stop at Super Bro’s – the dough is so good and the staff are so friendly;
for Vietnamese, the ingredients at Vipho are so fresh;
for Thai, BKK Thai Street Food is my top choice.
Ok, I will stop there as the list goes on and on, but check out the several Liebesdienste shops too, and GoKio Bros (it’s fried chicken – I don’t eat meat but am always super happy with the veggie options.) Ok, so I snuck that one in and here is just one more: Der Fette Bulle for delicious burgers!

Enjoy Frankfurt and feel free to let me know your top 5 favourites in this city!! 🤩
