I love eating out in Frankfurt because, despite the typical meat-heavy German cuisine, there are some delicious vegetarian options for those of us who prefer to eat meat free. After trying out quite a few places, here are my favourite vegetarian & vegan breakfast, lunch and dinner spots for the next time you’re feeling hungry.
Vegetarian Breakfast
Zeit Für Brot
usually has a queue out the door but the staff are super quick and friendly, so be patient because it’s worth the wait! Zeit für Brot has an excellent reputation for their “Schnecken” (swirls, or literally translated “snails”). They come in a range of flavours including cinnamon, apple, poppy seeds, chocolate, maple & walnut, rhubarb, and coconut & white chocolate. But if it’s a more savoury breakfast that you’re after than the bircher muesli is really good and so is their freshly baked “vollkorn” (whole grain) bread.
Balance Deli
is actually a vegan café, and I’d say it’s my favourite in Frankfurt. Located within a yoga studio, the very chilled and quiet atmosphere is complimented by the numerous hanging plants and huge windows that let in lots of natural light. I’d recommend their cinnamon dream smoothie bowl and banana bread – yum!
Café Karin
is another good spot, serving traditional continental breakfast as well as omelettes with a range of veggie toppings. The main breakfasts are named after different districts in Frankfurt, giving it a nice touch.
Vegetarian Lunch & Dinner
Aroydee
has the best Thai food in Frankfurt! The restaurant doesn’t look too special but they have so many vegetarian options and even an entire vegan menu. If I don’t know what to get then I always opt for the green curry- so good!
Veevay
is one of the first restaurants that I went to in Frankfurt and I’d still recommend it now. The entire menu is vegetarian/ vegan but my favourite is the BBQ burger 🙂
Saravanaa Bhavan
is a 100% Indian vegetarian restaurant near Frankfurt main station. There are SO many options on the menu so you may need some time to decide but I always go for Aloo Gobi (potato and cauliflower curry).
Aroma
sells the best falafel in Frankfurt and is amazing for vegetarian/ vegan healthy fast food. There’s falafel with aubergine, falafel with halloumi, falafel with hummus, and a few other options too. You can choose either pita bread or the sharing plates, and just a heads up, there’s always a queue, probably because it’s ranked #1 in Frankfurt on Trip Advisor.
Heidi und Paul
is a salad bar with a range of healthy ‘make your own salad’ options, soups and smoothies. To order, tick off what you’d like to have on the order sheet, hand it in at the counter and the staff will bring it over to your table. 🙂
Veggie House
is one that I’ve seen loads of advertising for but never actually ordered from myself. It’s a 100% vegetarian takeaway menu and if you live in the city then you’ll likely receive a flyer in the post. Let me know if you’ve tried it out, perhaps I’ll give it a go.
Happy vegetarian eating in Frankfurt 🙂
That’s good to know. Next time I’m in Frankfurt I’ll have a look.
