12 hours in Nha Trang

Day 6

We had to stop off in Nha Trang on our way to Hoi An. This wasn’t a part of our original plan so I would bear it in mind when planning your route.
We took a sleeper bus from Mui Ne to Nha Trang, saving money on accommodation and as not to waste time travelling during the day.

Hotel Sol
We didn’t book accommodation so the Lonely Planet guide was a blessing as it was tipping down with rain as we arrived. We just wanted somewhere to put our heads down for a few hours as we were only in Nha Trang for about 12 hours. Emily was a little trooper, running out of the cab in the pouring rain to see if we could stay in the  hotels just for the day. Hotel Sol  allowed the 5 of us to share a 4 bed for the day for only $15 – bargain! We were more than happy with this. A little cramped but beggars can’t be choosers.

Sailing Club restaurant
Whilst on the beach, we stumbled across the Sailing Club restaurant. It was immediately clear that this was a tad more fancy than anywhere we had eaten before, but we were hungry and the food looked good. The place was immaculate, every knife and fork placed perfectly on its napkin, and the staff friendly and ready to give advice.  I had French toast stuffed with Camembert, caramelised onions and maple syrup, it was so good to taste a few familiar flavours, but what I appreciated the most is that it was served on brown bread! Yes! (It’s the little things that count).

Now, it might sound a funny thing to say but whilst travelling you become extremely appreciative of a pleasant bathroom. After returning back to the crew, I told them that if they need to go then they’d better go here! Dimmed lights, individual hand towels and a pleasant aroma meant that these toilets were top notch.

There were water features in the Sailing club, sofas to sip cocktails on and even swings for the light hearted!

Po Nagar Cham Towers
If you want to make the most of this quick stop over, I would spare an hour or two for the Po Nagar Cham Towers.  The temple was founded in 781, each tower carefully sculpted with perfect detail, and there was of course plenty of incense.  Emily was the only one who could go inside the towers as her legs and arms were covered. She said it was very peaceful but that we hadn’t missed too much – phew!

Sailing Club restaurant
We loved it so much that we came back again. It was hardly a super saver meal, but worth every penny! I opted for Indian food instead of Vietnamese (naughty) but this mango and prawn curry was by far one of the best curries I have ever had. The combination of tender prawns and sweet bursts of mango left me a very happy customer, and served with both rice and naan bread, I certainly didn’t go hungry.
