Outdoor spaces in Frankfurt to explore during lockdown

Whilst it’s important to stay at home, going for walks in outdoor spaces is a great way to look after our physical and mental health during lockdown. Here’s a list of my favourite outdoor spaces to go for a wander in Frankfurt.

Jacobiweiher / Frankfurt City Forest

Jacobiweiher is a pond located in Frankfurt’s city forest (Stadtwald). This is one of my favourite places to go when I fancy getting out of the city. I mean, you are still in the city forest, but I’m sure you know what I mean 😉 Find info on how to get there here.

Grüneburgpark

You can spend hours walking around Grüneburgpark’s 29 hectares of greenery. Located in Westend, this park is the biggest within the inner city of Frankfurt. I’d say the best way to see all of it is by going for a nice long run!

Nizza Gardens on the River Main

Have you ever visited the Nizza Garden, located on the River Main? Located on the northern riverbank, I always enjoy walking through this small and hidden garden full of palm trees, lemon trees and Mediterranean plants.

Rothschildpark

This small park is located directly in Frankfurt’s banking quarter, giving you a great view of some of the skyscrapers when taking a stroll. Rothschilsdpark is right by the Alte Oper, so it’s worth visiting both, if you have the time.

Chinese Garden /Bethmannpark

Frankfurt’s Chinese Garden (Chinesischer Garten) is located in Bethmannpark. This calming oasis is the perfect place for a quiet walk whilst observing the intricate details of the Chinese architecture.

These are my top 5, but I’d love to hear of any other outdoor spaces in Frankfurt that are worth visiting. Feel free to leave a comment if you have any suggestions! 🙂

P.S. The pond in my header photo is Friedberger Anlage, which is more or less opposite Bethmannpark.
